  • Oxford Mississippi was first incorporated as a town in 1837. It was given its name after the town of Oxford, England with the idea of securing Mississippi's first university. The University of Mississippi 'Ole Miss' was chartered in 1841 and had its grand opening to students in 1848. Oxford's rapid growth in the next century made Oxford an extremely attractive place to settle.
  • Oxford MS continues to maintain an aggressive growth rate and is host to many unique festivities all year long. Among those who made their home here was the family of William Faulkner in 1902. His grave site is just a stones throw from the Historic Oxford Square and is one of Oxford's most popular tourist sites.
